For children and adolescents, resilience plays an important role in healthy emotional and social development. Life can include stress, disappointment, and unexpected challenges, but resilient children are better able to manage these experiences and continue to grow in positive ways. Resilience does not mean that children never feel upset or struggle. Instead, it means they are able to handle difficult emotions and situations with support and guidance. According to the American Psychological Association, resilience involves behaviours, thoughts, and actions that can be learned and developed over time.
